———————

The High Plains Drafters Homebrew Club of Cheyenne, Wyoming cordially invite you to enter Wyoming’s oldest sanctioned homebrew competition – Eight Seconds of Froth.

Homebrew entries will be evaluated by experienced judges at Eight Seconds of Froth. The number of Categories will be determined after all of the entries are received. Awards will be given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place entries in each Category, as well as for a Best of Show. This year’s competition will be held in Cheyenne, Wyoming at a place yet to be detemined. Discussions are also underway for the possibility of a winning entry to be brewed and entered in this year’s GABF Pro-Am competition. To be eligible for this honor, be sure to include your AHA membership status with your entry as only AHA members at the time of brewing are allowed to enter the Pro-Am.

Homebrew Competition Rules
The Competition is open to amateur homebrewers age 21 or older. All entries must be handcrafted products, containing ingredients available to the general public, and made using private equipment by hobbyist brewers (i.e., no use of commercial facilities or Brew on Premises operations, supplies, etc.!).

Categories
Each beer, mead or cider will be judged according to the 2008 BJCP guidelines. Beers of similar styles will be grouped together to allow for manageable judging sessions and reasonable competition. Best beers in each Category will be judged in a final round to determine the Best of Show Beer.

Bottles
An entry shall consist of two (2) bottles, 10 – 22 ounce, preferably green or brown glass. Bottles must be clean of all paper, printed or enameled labels, label adhesive, misc. debris, raised designs or brand names, or any other distinguishing features. Clear glass, wire swing-top and oversized (22 oz. or champagne) bottles are acceptable, though discouraged. Printed crown caps are acceptable but must be blacked out completely with black marker to assure anonymity. Bottles will not be returned to entrants.

Paperwork
Each bottle shall have a bottle identification form or reasonable facsimile attached with a rubber band to facilitate collection of forms; glue and/or tape are unacceptable. A single recipe form must accompany each entry. Promash entry forms are also accepted. Enter your beer according to the 2008 BJCP classifications — a copy of these classifications is available on the entry page. Please fill out the entry forms completely. Be meticulous about noting any special ingredients that must be specified per the BJCP Style Guidelines. Failure to note such ingredients may impact the judges’ scoring of your entry. Anyone interested in judging should print and send a registration form to the judge coordinator, Brian Mertz .

Limitations
Brewers are limited to one entry per BJCP subcategory. Additionally, in Category 23A, Historic, Experimental, or other uncategorized beer types can be used as subtypes of the main category and more than one different beer entered, one in each subtype.

Entry Fees
An entry fee of $6 per entry will be collected on all entries. Attach entry fee to the Entry and Recipe form. (Note: all High Plains Drafters members get discounts on 3rd entry and up) Make checks payable to ‘High Plains Drafters’.

More Rules
Entrants agree to allow the High Plains Drafters the right to publish recipes without compensation. All entries become High Plains Drafters property. Infractions of these rules may disqualify any entry. Disqualified beers may still be judged but will not be eligible for awards. The judges may decide to not award any or all places in any Category. The decision of the judges is final.
