Congratulations to all of the Rock Hoppers Brew Club members who won medals at last weekend's Liquid Poetry Slam homebrew competition hosted by the Liquid Poets Homebrew Society of Fort Collins!Nine Rock Hoppers brewers took home a combined 19 medals, coming in second in the Heavy Medal Club award to the host Liquid Poets. Leading the charge for the Rock Hoppers was Geoff Humphrey who won seven medals including two golds and five silvers. That showing won Geoff the Heavy Medal Brewer award given to the brewer who accumulated the most points in the competition. Geoff topped it off with a selection, along with co-brewer Matt Lawlor, for a Pro-Am brew day at Mythmaker Brewing. Geoff and Matt will brew their "Red Hulk SMASH!" Red IPA on Mythmaker's system for next year's GABF pro-am competition. The Rock Hoppers Brew Club focuses on multiple aspects of the hobby of homebrewing - education, club events, local brewery meetups, and beer reviews and feedback - to try to provide something for all kinds of brewers and craft beer fans. Competition isn’t the sole focus of the club, but results from competitions like Liquid Poetry Slam help us learn how to improve our beers and brewing. They also showcase the talent of the brewers in our club and the depth of knowledge and skill they possess.We encourage anyone in the Denver area looking to get into homebrewing or experienced brewers without a club to come to a monthly Rock Hoppers Brew Club meeting. Summer 2026 – Buddy Brew!The Summer Buddy Brew for 2026 was a Single Malt and Single Hop (SMaSH) beer competition. Teams were able to choose the single malt and hop variety they wanted to use to make a beer style of their choosing.The beers were then served at the Rock Hoppers Brew Club summer picnic. The variety of beers produced by the participants was impressive, especially with a SMaSH beer competition.
