Prost tomorrow

If anyone is going to the results at falling rock tomorrow, I am swinging by Prost around 4 pm to talk to Bill Eye, have a beer, and pick up some promo items for Biere de Rock.  Call me if you want to meet up.  I heard the beers are fantastic.  I will be going to the competition resuults afterwards.

Colorado Goes Midwest

Not really a “watering hole” but where else to put news about a beer festival?  Anyhow, I spent 10+ years helping to coordinate / run the Great Taste of the Midwest Beer Festival.  Arguably, one of the best festivals in the country.  For those that have attended the Co Brewers Guild Rendezvous, think of the Great Tast as “The Rendezvous on steroids”.

Anyhow, the Great Taste has always been a “Midwest only” festival.  Over the years, there have developed quite a contingent of “pre-parties” at notable watering holes / breweries in the Madison area.  I snuck a peek at this years list of pre-parties and, low and behold, Left Hand Brewing Co and Oskar Blues are hosting / being featured at two Great Taste “pre-parties”.  It’s a small, small, small, small world.

For anyone looking for a good time, short of the NHC or BBBandBW or such, the Great Taste is a worthwhile pilgrimmage.

Wit’s End

Brewer Scott Witsoe is living the dream using a one barrel Blichman system at 2505 W 2nd Ave in an industrial ghetto.  You have to exit Sixth Ave. at Bryant to get there, you can’t get there from Alameda.

Fifteen or so people were there tonight sampling seven brews on tap.  Nothing is to style.  They had a Hefeweizen with Rye, a couple of hoppy black beers and a Belgian Blonde.  The IPA was less hoppy than a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.  All the beers I tried were cleanly brewed and interesting.  I’m looking forward to going back.

Thanks to Hopper Chris Wayne for the tip.   Michael

Bristol Brewing Firkin Rendezvous

I know that there are plenty of good places to go drink beer this weekend (such as Avery for the Strong Ale Festival) but just wanted to know if anyone planned on going to Bristol Brewing in CO Springs this Saturday, Feb. 19th from 1-5p.m. for the Firkin Rendezvous. I have never been and it seems like fun. They have over 20 firkins (naturally carbonated cask ales) from different CO brewers and tickets are still available.
