FOAM Competition – ALMOST got the Firkin, but Hoppers still ROCKED

Full results for FOAM are here: http://fotr.brewcompetition.com/index.php

For those who weren’t present for the awards, we tried hard to listen for anyone who had designated themselves as a hopper to collect medals and swag. Medals/swag collected will be brought to the meeting on Thursday. If you won and were not at the awards and cannot make the meeting on Thursday, e-mail me so we can make arrangements to get you your stuff.

Next year we need a bigger push for the competition to wipe the smirk off the Foamer’s faces. Wasn’t quite a fair fight with them having 80+ entries and Hoppers having just over 50. Next year, we take the FIRKIN!!!!

National Homebrew Competition 2011

The National Homebrew Competition is just over two months away.  We will again be having the 1st round judging in Denver this year. The judging will take place the weekend of April 9th at the Breckenridge Brewery on 471 Kalamath, Denver, CO.

Depending on the final entry count we are anticipating that we will want to start the judging on Friday evening, April 8th (1 or 2 categories).  We will be having a full day of judging (2 sessions) on Saturday, April 9th.

We need lots of volunteers – stewards and judges. Please contact me, ryanthomasai@gmail.com, or our Judge Coordinator, Deborah Lee (queenbeebrews@yahoo.com) to let us know if you would like to judge or steward during that weekend and for which sessions, i.e. Friday evening, Saturday AM, Saturday PM, you will be available.

More information will be sent out later to the volunteers. Let me know if you have any questions at this point.

Please take a moment to pass this along to your homebrew clubs and others who may not be on the BJCP mailing list.  Thank you and I look forward to seeing all of you the weekend of April 9th!

Copper Kettle Brewing Competition

We are hosting a homebrew competition with the best-of-show winner getting to brew their beer on our 3BBL system and serve it with us on our grand opening.  In addition to entries we are seeking judges with experience to help us.  This will not be an AHA sanctioned event so sorry, no BJCP points, but it will definitely be a fun event.

Right now it is an open category event for beer entries only, no meads or ciders.

The expected due date for entries is early Feb. I’m working on drop-off locations.  I could also come pick up entries at your next event/meeting.

We request entries limited to <9% abv since we need to have the beer ready to serve in ~8 weeks or less from brew day.

We likely won’t mandate an entry fee but will strongly request a donation since this will be a charity event.  Something in the range of $3 per entry will go a long way in helping in the local community.  Additional donations are also encouraged.

I’ll post more details when they come about.

Please become a fan on our facebook page.  We post updates there to our blog and that will be the most up-to-date for info on the competition and eventually our opening day.

Cheers!
