We have our winning brewers!
Congratulations to Phil Penningroth and Billy Beeson – their Smoked London Cappuccino beat out all other entires as the favorite Iron Buddy Brew of 2012. Their beer was based upon the Meantime London Porter, but they added:
- Vietnamese Trung Nguyen coffee
- Cocoa Nibs
- Lactose
- Cinnamon
- Rauch Malt
Thanks to all who signed up to participate in the 2012 Iron Buddy Brew!
Participants have been sent their team pairings – brew on!
What is the Iron Buddy Brew?
Like last year’s Buddy Brew, participants will still work in pairs (consisting a new member and a veteran member) to build a recipe and collectively brew a beer.
However, beginning this year, the beer brewed by each pair must incorporate at least three of the “secret ingredients” drawn randomly from a collection that includes fruits, grains, herbs, spices, wood, and other interesting foodstuffs.
The base beer can be of any style.
At the September meeting, the resulting brews will be judged by the club to determine an overall favorite.
The winning brewers will collaborate with Kjell to brew the beer as a “Deviation” at the Rockyard!
This year, the secret ingredients are:
- Cedar (chips, cubes, etc.)
- Carrots
- Butternut Squash
- Cumin
- Cocoa Nibs
- Licorice (root or sticks)
- Cinnamon
- French Oak (chips, cubes, etc.)
- Rauchmalt
The procedure is as follows:
- Participants sign up by April 22, 2012.
- Participants will be informed of the pairings via email.
- During May, June, July, and August, participant pairs craft their recipes, brew their beer, and package.
- At the September 2012 meeting, the club will determine the winning brew by popular vote.
- Winners will coordinate with Kjell to determine a brew day at the Rockyard.
- All brewers are invited to share their creations with the club at the annual Hop-o-Ween Party on October 27, 2012.
Cheers and good luck to all brewers!
