Hop IBU Calculations

Can anyone tell me what the difference and significance is of the different IBU calculation methods?  I’m using Beer Alchemy and I have the choice of Tinseth, Daniels, Rager, and Garetz.  Each one gives a different IBU value, ranging from 26 (Garetz) to 44 (Rager).  Granted, the three besides Garetz are all between 39 and 44, so I’m guessing that the actual IBU value will be somewhere in the range of 40.  Nonetheless, it’s rather odd and a bit confusing that there would be that much variation in IBU calculations.

Any ideas?

big brew day

Thanks to all who came over and brewed  yesterday!! Over fifty gallons of beer were brewed at our house alone, not to mention those who brewed on their own home systems. All three carboys are bubbling away in the closet and it smells great. The Frank(beer)stein has a very unique Krausen, super thick with tiny tiny bubbles, and the stout is dark and foamy-just like the beer will be!! Take care all!!
